Spark plugs are small but mighty. Without them, your car will not start and will fail to operate normally. We have compiled the top signs that your spark plugs are getting ready to fail. If you notice any of these symptoms, do not hesitate to schedule a diagnostic exam at Catlett’s Service Center & Towing.

How long do spark plugs last?

The lifespan of your spark plugs will depend wholly on the material they are made from. Typical spark plugs are made from copper and nickel. These spark plugs have a lifespan of approximately 30,000 to 50,000 miles. However, some spark plugs may only have a 10,000 to 20,000 miles lifespan. Your auto technician at Catlett’s Service Center & Towing will let you know the approximate life span of your spark plugs during a replacement.

Signs your spark plugs need replacing

Although they are a tiny component in your vehicle, spark plugs can cause big issues when they start to fail. If you notice any of these signs, you should bring your vehicle in immediately for a diagnostic exam at Catlett’s Service Center & Towing:

  1. The car Will Not Accelerate.

The exact process that starts your car is responsible for the acceleration. Failing spark plugs will cause your vehicle to struggle with acceleration.

  • The Engine Will Not Turn Over

Spark plugs are needed to start your vehicle. Failing spark plugs may cause issues for your car to start, or it may not want to start.

  • Loud, Rough Idling

A common symptom of bad spark plugs is your engine misfiring or idling roughly.

  • Check Engine Lights Kicks On

If you notice the three above issues, along with a check engine light, you could be dealing with a spark plug issue. One of our Catlett’s Service Center & Towing technicians can check the code on the check engine light to verify a spark plug problem.

Do Not Ignore Failing Sparkplugs

Sparkplugs that are starting to fail will cause a noticeable difference in the driving and handling of your vehicle. Failing sparkplugs typically cause several issues to spring up at once. If you notice one or more of these problems in your car, bring it into Catlett’s Service Center & Towing for a diagnostic exam. Please call our shop at 410-798-5446 to schedule an appointment for a diagnostic exam.
