Maryland State Auto Inspections Made Easy

As a car owner in Maryland, you may feel overwhelmed by the necessary inspections to remain road legal. Catlett’s Service Center and Towing can inspect your vehicle and ensure that you are following all current Maryland regulations. At a minimum, Maryland requires that an auto emissions test be performed every two years and that a vehicle safety inspection be performed when selling your car. Our Davidsonville auto shop can efficiently perform both inspections for you with minimal disruption to your schedule.

Maryland Auto Emissions Test

Maryland requires that an auto emissions test be performed on every vehicle every 2 years. Should your vehicle fail the auto emissions test, you have 30 days or 1000 miles to perform the necessary repairs and get your vehicle reinspected. Currently, the vehicles exempt from emissions tests are historic cars less than 40 years old or new cars less than 3 years old. Catlett’s Service Center and Towing can perform your Maryland auto emissions test for you at a minimal cost.

Maryland State Auto Inspections

The other type of inspection that Maryland requires is a vehicle safety inspection. A vehicle safety inspection is needed when you first move to Maryland or first buy a used vehicle from both private sales and dealerships. Car owners moving in from a different state only have a 60-day grace period to get a vehicle safety inspection.

Most dealerships will perform this service in-house before selling you a used vehicle. For private sales of used cars, bring the vehicle to Catlett’s Service Center and Towing to get your vehicle safety inspection completed. We check the following items during our safety inspection:

  1. Brakes and wheels
  2. Fuel system
  3. Power steering components
  4. Electronics system
  5. Vehicle suspension

We will thoroughly examine your vehicle in line with current Maryland regulations. Should any issues be found during the safety inspection, we will recommend the best action to fix the problems. Maryland allows for the same 30 days or 1000-mile period to get the repairs made to any vehicle that failed the safety inspection.
